Racketlon Top 28 20080330
The final offered a clash between the
two players presently dominating Racketlon in Gothenburg; Niclas Larsson (no.1
on the Gothenburg ranking) and Håkan Granberg (no.2). Granberg showed
exceptionally good form in squash throughout the day and his victory 21-15
against Larsson was surprising - and well needed to balance two tight losses in
the initial two sports. It helped him to keep the match very much alive; +1 for
Larsson before tennis meant that whoever would win the tennis would also win the
match.
At 16-12 in the tennis it clearly looked as if the winner would be Granberg. But
that's when Larsson brought out a game that caused eyebrows rise among the
audience gathered. Through very inspired play - including a couple of full body
length dives by the net causing him to bleed extensively from one of his elbows
- Larsson managed to level out to 18-18 and then followed through with three
straight points to win the set 21-18 and consequently the full match.
Full results, including an update of the connected Gothenburg ranking are
expected to appear on www.gothenburgracketlon.com within the next few days.
The "Gothenburg Top X" tournaments are the monthly tournaments of the
Gothenburg Racketlon Club normally held the last Sunday of every month. All
participants get at least 3 matches played more or less in sequence. Everyone is
out of the sport centre before lunch.
