The World-Championships in Belgium is getting nearer
and nearer, Gothenburg has a few interesting competitors: Lilian Druve:World
Champion, Ulf Bredberg:Veteran World Champion, Hans Mullamaa, Niclas Larsson,
Jukka Salminen, Daniel Majetic, Hugo Hellman and Isak Johansson are all defending Gothenburg's
honour. "We should at least take two medals, two golds would be good",
says one of Gothenburg's participants.

Gothenburg's Racketlon Ladder IX
The 9th ladder was very, very dramatic this time. The whole
ladder was won by just one point in the very final game. Ulf Björk, Ulf
Bredberg and Niclas Larsson won two games each. Bredberg and Larsson had +7 both
of them, but Larsson won it because of his victory in the final game. Read more
about it here. Check all the
winners in the ladder here.

The Swedish Championship 2006
Many Gothenburg Racketlon Players took part in the
Swedish Championships this weekend. Isak Johansson took part in the Junior Class
and the C-Class and he fought well. He also beat a new record, he is the
youngest ever to take part in a Swedish Championship, impressive. Peter
Sjöstrand and Niclas Jonsson played in the C-Class, both did very well just
loosing by just a couple points. In the B-Class, Robert Nilsson, Hans Mullamaa,
Pär Mattsson, Fredrik Westlund and Ulf Björk took part. They all did well,
Mullamaa was near winning the tournament he lost by gummi-arm in the
semifinal.
In the Veteran Tournament, Lars Blomstergren did very
well, almost reaching the semifinal, he lost by 2 points in the quarterfinal.
In the A-Class, Kristian Karttunen, Håkan Granberg,
Stefan Engström, Kristoffer Ziegler, Carl-Johan Olsson and Niclas Larsson took
part. Karttunen played well against Mikael Jonsson in the first round but he lost. After that he strongly won the Plate Tournament. Granberg
played against Joachim Nilsson. Nilsson played at his peak, Granberg didn't have
a chance. Olsson and Engström faced each other in the first round. Engström
won. In the second round Engström faced nr 3 Mats Källberg. Engstöm played
well in table-tennis getting 8 points from the table-tennis specialist. In the
badminton Engström also played well, almost winning, 21-23. Källberg was
however too strong in squash and the game was over. Ziegler and Larsson played a
tight game which Larsson won by 2 points. In the second round Larsson faced
Henrik Håkansson, 6th seeded. Larsson played a strong table-tennis
leading 19-4, but Håkansson came back and Larsson won 21-12. In
the badminton Håkansson played better than ever winning 21-19. Larsson was up
13-12 in squash but Håkansson was too strong in the end winning 21-13. In
tennis, Håkansson was expectingly too strong for Larsson.
The Gothenburg
Racketlon players are climbing the ranking, three players are among the 20 best
in Sweden and it looks like many are on their way. If they can cooperate a bit
better one could be certain that Gothenburg soon will have a player among the
top ten in Sweden, perhaps even top 5.
Other highlights this weekend was to see Magnus
Eliasson winning the tournament. He really is a true champ. He says that he
keeps on playing Racketlon because he becomes better and better all the time,
one can not disagree with him there. And he is indeed becoming a lot better at
fair-play. He doesn't need to discuss things with the referee at all, he is too
good for that. Another true fighter this weekend was Joachim Nilsson, he was
very close in beating nr 2 Stefan Adamsson. It
is going to be interesting to see if our badminton pro, Kristian Karttunen and
our table-tennis pro, Robert Nilsson can reach the top 10 in a not too distant
future. If everyone helps each other in Gothenburg, one should have its
elite-star very soon.

Gothenburg's Regional Championship 2006
THE NEW CHAMPION COMES
FROM BADMINTON
Kristian Karttunen first time winner of the Gothenburg Racketlon Championships

The Finalist: Kristian Karttunen and Staffan Ericsson
As the 2005-2006
Gothenburg Racketlon Championships were held today a new champion was appointed.
Although his victory is not unexpected (given his performance at last month's
Gothenburg Top 40, which he won in a very convincing manner) this is the first
time that Karttunen can call himself Gothenburg Racketlon Champion.
The final against defending champion (and 2002 Racketlon World Championship
Bronze Medal winner!) Staffan Ericsson offered the audience some typical
racketlon drama as tennis specialist Ericsson was 15 points behind before tennis
and thus needed to win by 15-0 to equal out. A daunting task, of course, but for
tennis specialist Ericsson (who used to be a training partner to Swedish former
Tennis star Magnus Norman) by no means impossible. And, to the liking of those
in the audience who wanted a close match, Ericsson started off very determinedly
playing a very solid effective game of long safe rallies winning one point after
the other.
At 10-0 the gummi-arm tie-break was only five points away. But that was when the
mistake came. After 10 or 20 constant shots to Karttunen's backhand Ericsson
went for a straight backhand that, seemingly for no reason, went far out to the
side. It was an unforced error and a suspicious case of "Gummiarm" as
Ericsson probably had started to entertain thoughts like "just a few more
points". In fact, the whole tennis set seems to have been a display of a
phenomenon well known within the racketlon community that might be termed
"Gummiarm Roaming" (referring to the Gummiarm moving from one person
to the other); In the beginning of the set Karttunen obviously had it as his
usually quite impressive serve turned into one double fault after another. But
at 10-0, it seems as if it (together with the hope of winning) moved over to
Ericsson.
The total result was recorded as:
Karttunen - Ericsson +6 (tt: 10-15, ba: 15-2, sq: 15-8, te: 1-10)

KARTTUNEN GOTHENBURG'S
ANSWER?
The Gothenburg Top 40 event played earlier today
was surprisingly and
convincingly(!) won by Kristian Karttunen! He beat reigning "Top"
Champ stefan Engström with +30 points in the final, which is very impressive
for someone that is still fairly new to racketlon having taken part only a
couple of times so-far. Has Gothenburg finally got a Men's Elite star? The
Gothenburg Racketlon Club proved its quality at the Vienna World Championships a
few weeks ago by seizing two(!) out of the three most prestigious titles through
Lilian Druve in Ladies' Elite and Ulf Bredberg in Men's Veteran (both duely
celebrated at the Annual General Meeting yesterday). But since Staffan Ericsson
took the bronze in Gothenburg World Open 2002 there has been little sign of a
real challenger among the Gothenburg Men's Elite players. Karttunen might well
be what we have been waiting for! A U22 Swedish badminton champion in 2004 he
currently ranks among the very best badminton players in Sweden (a 21-0 victory
against Stefan Engström - a good badminton player by international racketlon
standards - speaks a language that most racketletes understands...) and his
improvement rate in squash and table tennis has clearly been dramatic over the
last year.
Under the inspired lead of Niclas Larsson the Gothenburg "Top" event
has grown considerably and today's event was the biggest _local_ racketlon event
ever held in Gothenburg with 38 participants in three classes. Niclas will be
back on January 8 with the Gothenburg Racketlon Regional Championships, a yearly
event that normally attracts about twice as many participants as the standard
Gothenburg "Top" events...

Bredberg Takes Down the Juniors-
Ulf Bredberg Wins his first Top 16 Victory.

Gothenburg's Racketlon King, Ulf Bredberg
What a guy this is. He gets stronger and more skillful each time he plays.
However, he had some tough games today. He conquered two table-tennis
specialists in the quarterfinal and semifinal. He won the quarterfinal against,
Kristofer Ziegler, 5th today (a future-top one in Gothenburg?) by 10 points and
then beat Carl-Johan Olsson by 10 points in the semifinal. In the final he faced
Niclas Larsson. The all-round and strategical Bredberg made Larsson serve really
badly in badminton, and this was one of the resons why he won the game. "He
is very smart, Bredberg, very smart comments Larsson." Larsson will win
easily, because Bredberg is so tired, said Carl-johan Olsson before the
game". The juniors were all wrong Bredberg is at the moment Gothenburg's
Racketlon King. We all wonder who will win next time. Staffan Ericsson, Stefan
Engström, Hans Mullamaa and Bredberg have all won Top 16 Tournaments this year.
Who will win the next tremendous battle? The 18th of December is the final Top
16 this year and the 8th od January is Gothenburg's Regional Championship.

Top 16 September 2005
Mr
Racketlon, Stefan Engström, impressively won this weekend's Top 16 Tournament.
Engström only had to play tennis once against Lars Blomstergren in the
quarterfinal. Engström has played extremely well the last three tournaments he
has entered, 2,1,1. He is nr 1 in the Marathon League (see here)
and he climbs the Gothenburg Racketlon Ranking ranking rapidly. It may just be a
matter of time before he takes over the Nr 1 position in Gothenburg. (see
ranking here). Check out

Top 16 April 2005
A True Racketloner Took his Fifth Victory in the Strongest Top 16 Ever
This weekend's Top 16 Competition was indeed dramatic. Before the event Hans
Mullamaa was the the biggest favourite, since he won quite easily last month.
However, Ulf Bredberg had shown good form in Czech Open so he could very well go
all the way.

An old picture but still characteristic of what went on in
today's Top 16. The Racketloner, Stefan Engström, to the right, top-focused on
next event. Anders Brodin nr 5 today, to the left, looking deeply disappointed
but still determined.
The First Rounds-Good Individual Games but Overall Expected
Winners
The highest ranked people won all their first rounds. Niclas Larsson (1)
beat Hans Lager. This was Lager's debut in Top 16 (He has played in the
Racketlon-Ladder before.) and he showed good determination. He was a bit unlucky
in the table-tennis, because he lost quite big in the game but than after the
match he beat Larsson. Another interesting newcomber was Tomas Lundqvist, who had
a tough draw against Anders Brodin (6). He fought well, especially in
table-tennis, but he lost. Patrick Sjögren, ranked nr 8, faced Stefan
Andersson. This was Andersson's second Top 16 tournament, and he is indeed
improving day by day. He won the table-tennis, 15-12, and played well in the
other disiplines. Everyone better watch out for this guy because he is
practising hard and he climbs the ranking fairly rapidly.
The third game this day played Csaba Banhegyi against Hans
Mullamaa (3). Csaba lost but he put up a good fight and beat the well-trained
Mullamaa in squash, 16-14. Björn Hagelqvist also lost his game but played very
well in table-tennis (winning 15-9) against Stefan Engström (4). Jukka Salminen
(7) beat Markus Edlund in a good game. Olle Benéus (5) had a first tough start
against table-tennis specialist Carl-Johan Olsson (2-15), but he came back
strongly winning by 16 points overall.
Quarterfinals-7 out of Gothenburg's 8 Highest Ranked Players Faced Each Other
In the first quarterfinal, Niclas Larsson faced Anders Brodin. A tough draw
since both players won Top 8/16 before.(Check it out, Marathon
League) Brodin started up in an impressive way comfortably winning
table-tennis 15-8. Larsson's hard badminton training paid off when he won the
next sport by 15-5.The squash was even, they were both well prepared. Larsson
was a bit lucky, he got a few lucky shots. He was up 8-7, but at the end Brodin
showed that he is best player of them in squash, 15-11. In the tennis Larsson
showed a good stability and won 15-8, he therefore won the game overall by 6
points.
The second quarterfinal- Hans
Mullamaa-Patrick Sjögren lookeed interesting indeed. Mullamaa won last top 16
(see
report)
and Sjögren played well in the last Ladder ((see Ladder news).
Unfortunately Sjögren felt a bit sick and couldn't play at his peak. Mullamaa
played strongly winning by 18 points, 15-9, 15-8, 15-10.
A sick Patrick Sjögren, nr 8 today,
lost in the quarterfinal against the
strong Hans Mullamaa.
The
third quarterfinal- Stefan Engström and Jukka Salminen was also considered to
be an even game. Salminen beat Engström in Gothenburg Regional Championships (see report)
and Engström has, according to himself, been more focused on his training
lately and he came second in the last tournament. (Check out results here.)
Engström won the game surprisingly easy, +19 points (15-9, 15-8, 15-10).
Engström's comments on the game: "Jukka wasn't himself". The
well-trained athlete, Jukka comments: "It was too early in the morning, I
usually get up at 09.00-09.30." For Jukka's sake we'd better hope he gets
to play later next time.
Nr 7 today, Jukka Salminen in action.
He lost in the quarterfinal against Stefan Engström.
"It was too early in the morning, says Salminen".
The fourth quarterfinal- Olle Benéus and Ulf
Bredberg was a tough draw for both players. Benéus and Breberg have faced each
other in many memorable bronze-medallion games, (see report GC 2005, here.)
and also played each other in Veterans´ final in the World Tour Tournament,
GRO. (see report here.) Bredberg has won all their last games, but the fighter
and squash-terminator Benéus gets closer and closer. This time Benéus won both
table-tennis (16-14) and squash (15-8). But Bredberg showed yet again why he is
Gothenburg's strongest veteran and nr 2 in the World, winning badminton (15-8)
and tennis 15-11. Bredberg won the whole game by just 4 points.
Olle Benéus, nr 6 today. The squash-terminator,
Benéus,
gets closer and closer in winning over Bredberg, -4 today.
Semifinals IRF-President against GRF-President and the True Racketloner
against Czech Open Winner
In the first semifinal Niclas Larsson faced Hans Mullamaa. Interesting
battle indeed. They have both trained very well this season. Mullamaa argued
that his form was just a bit better since his last Top 16 success. Larsson has
trained and competed like maniac the last two weeks, since his wife and baby
have been away. He has trained about competed about 5-6hours a day and he has
played 21 competitive racket matches in different leagues. In other words they
were both well prepared. Larsson's was 100% focused in the table-tennis winning
15-5.
Mullamaa's comment: "Larsson played extremely well". In the
badminton game Mullamaa started up brilliantly leading 13-3 and it looked like
he was back in the game. However, Larsson surprisingly came back in the game and
Mullamaa could just win 15-11. The honest Mullamaa said after the game: "I
didn't play bad at the end, Larsson just played good". The third sport,
squash, was even but Mullamaa won it by 15-11. Larsson played very stable tennis
in the end and won it 15-9. The overall score was then 6+ points for Larsson.
The second semfinal, Stefan Engström-Ulf
Bredberg was also a very unpredictable game. Engström had done a a
bit of running the last days , in order to improve his stamina. And Bredberg was
in good shape after his victory in Czech Open. Engström showed his
professionality in the table-tennis winning the game by 15-2. Then he kept up
his focus and also won badminton and squash. 15-7, 15-9. This day Stefan
Engström was just too good for Bredberg. His running training has undoubtedly
paid off. Engström had won all his first three games without having to play
tennis. Impressive indeed.
The Czech Open Winner, nr 3 today, Ulf Bredberg
and the IRF-President, former Top 16 Winner, nr 4,
Hans Mullamaa.
The Final- The True Racketloner, Stefan Engström, Takes his Fifth Title
This was Larsson's third Top 16 final this year. Engström is indeed a true
Racketloner, he has, noteably, been trainining and competing in racketlon since 1995. He is one of the ones who started Gothenburg Racketlon's first
trainings and ladders. He has aslo won Gothenburg Regional Championships, 2000.(Check results
here.)
They have both been nr 1 on the Ranking. Larsson took over
Engström's nr 1 position in October-November 2004. Before that Engström had
been nr 1 for a very long time. Their last game won Larsson by 1 point in the
final in February 2004. (Check results here.) However, Engström won their
first two matches. The table-tennis was important for both of them.
Larsson needed to get many points in order to win the game. It started up very
well for him, leading 3-0. But the True racketloner came back rapidly. It was
even up to 11-9 to Engström. Then the table-tennis specialist, Engström,
started playing. He won the game fairly easy by 21-12.
The badminton game was
very even. Engström took all Larsson's drop shots, and he seemed to be everywhere
at the same time.
However, Larsson could still strongly win it but with a small
margin, 21-19. The squash game was also even, Larsson had to fight his breaths
out to win 21-18. Engström was up 4 points before the tennis. Stefan Engström,
The True Racketloner, showed impressive tennis skills when he won the final game
fairly easily 18-9. Engström comments on his victory: " I practice a lot
more these days, especially tennis and running." Apparently, have a few
guys in Lindome Tennis Club given him some valuable training before his fifth
Top 8/16 victory. He has now won most titles by all Gothenburg Racketlon Players.
Impressive indeed. Larsson better watch out on the ranking, he is still nr 1,
thanks to his consistency, but if Engström keeps up his impressive play he will
most likely overtake him on the ranking. Check out ranking
here. The next
tournament will be in held in August-September. To read more about the
tournament, check results in detail here,
and read more comments here.

Gothenburg's Racketlon Ladder IV
Niclas Larsson won the fourth round of
Gothenburg Racketlon Ladder. He beat Patrick Sjögren by 2 points in the
extremely tough final round. Sjögren had two matchpoints.

The President Strikes Back. -A True Success for Hans Mullamaa in Today's Top 16
Event.

Hans Mullamaa to the left.
The Racketlonguru, The President of the International Racketlon
Federation, Mr Hans Mullamaa played at his peak during today's tough
racketlon-competition. He won the whole tournament fairly easy. First he beat
Niclas Larsson (+7 10-15, 15-12, 15-5, 8-9). "I have never seen Mullamaa
play this well, said Larsson who was nr 1 on the ranking before this tournament.
He continues: "I didn't have a chance in squash." In the third round
Mullamaa beat the strong squashspecialist Olle Benéus (+15 16-14, 15-6, 15-11).
"He had three luckyshots in squash, but I have honestly never seen him play
this well, said a quite disappointed but honest Olle Benéus. In the
final, The President, faced the strong all-round player Stefan Engström. It was
a tough game. Mullamaa started up very well in table-tennis leading 4-2, and he
kept on playing well, just loosing by 4 points against table-tennis specialist
Engström. (11-15) In the badminton game Mullamaa showed yet again why he
is now one of the best players in Gothenburg, winning quite comfortably by
7 points (15-8). Mullamaa is very tricky player in badminton, one never knows
where he is going to put the ball. He won all his badminton games today, which
is very impressive. The squash game was also a fairly easy game for Mullamaa
(15-6). He looked mighty strong. Engström played well but it wasn't enough. In
tennis Hans needed 4 balls, he won 4-2.
We are indeed impressed by Hans Mullamaa's achievement today. Håkan
Granberg, nr 5 today, admirably commented on his mate's victory. "What can
I say. He has had a good time in Canada and I am sure he has trained as
hell." Olle Benéus believes Hans should thank his Canadian girlfriend for
his success....Well Done Mr President, you truly deserve your first TOP16
victory. Nr 2 today, Stefan Engström is really keen on a revenge next month and
Staffan Ericsson is most definitely back to fight next time about the Gothenburg
Racketlon Title. Read all the results from the tournament here.
More reports from the tournament will come up shortly on this link.

2005-03-20
17 players have now entered Top 16 monday the 28th of
March. There will be one qualification game. There are indeed quite a few interesting names among the
competitors. Håkan Granberg and Stefan Engström are both back in the game. It
will be interesting to see if they can go all the way. The former World-Champion,
Lilian Druve, is also taking part. The guys better watch out. There are also
three newcombers: Stefan Andersson, Anders Näs and Kristian Lindberg.
Apparently Näs has been close in beating one of the top ten in Gothenburg
before. Interesting indeed....

Canadian Open 2005
Our own Hans Mullamaa played Canadian Open in Toronto this
weekend, 11-13th of March. Mullamaa did well considering he played in the same
group as the World-Champ, Magnus Eliasson. Mullamaa won one game in his group,
and he will most likely climb the world-ranking. Mr Eliasson was unexpectingly
too tough for him.

Allround Player, Staffan Ericsson, Wins Again
The second Top-16 Racketlon Tournament has now been played.
All the results can be found here.
Staffan Ericsson impressively won yet again beating Niclas Larsson in the final. Larsson
comments on Ericsson's victory. "He is just too good, especially at the end
of the games". Larsson was up 16-14 in badminton and 14-10 and 18-16 in
squash but Ericsson won both sports anyway. The strong tennisplayer Ericsson
also won the table-tennis!!

Staffan Ericsson and Niclas Larsson
Nr 3 on Gothenburg Ranking, Ulf
Bredberg, came third again. Bredberg had to play Ericsson in the semifinal and
Ericsson was far too strong. "I will play a lot better next time, says
Bredberg". Anders Brodin ended up as nr 4, he was quite close in beating
Larsson in the semifinal leading 7-2 in squash (16-14). Patrick Sjögren plays
better and better, he came 5th today. Nr 6, Hans Mullamaa showed his strength in
a few games, beating Ericsson by 15-4 in badminton and beating Jukka Salminen
overall. Björn Hagelqvist and Saliminen played a last tough game which Salminen
won. Mattias Nilsson could very well become a new racketlon star. He won 3 of
his four games today, finishing up as nr9. Another new strong racketlon guy, is
Carl-johan Olsson, he strongly came 10th. Markus Edlund beat Andreas Genne in
the final round and thereby took the 11th place.
The two strong squash players Csaba Banhegyi and Lars
Blomstergren fought about place 13th. Blomstergren was the strongest of them.
Csaba played well today, just loosing by one point against Carl-Johan Olsson in
the second round. Anders Persson and Roger Johansson had a fairly tough game at
the end. Johansson won it by 13 points. Read more comments look at more pictures
about the tournament here.

Gothenburg Regional Championship 2005
GOTHENBURG REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
These are the headlines for the biggest local racketlon event
of the year:
Blomstergren strongest of the qualifiers
Gothenburg's biggest local racketlon tournament was
indeed an interesting event. All the best players on the Gothenburg ranking
except from Hans Mullamaa and Håkan Granberg took part in this major local
event.

Hans Mullamaa and Håkan Granberg, to the right, were
the only higly ranked players who couldn't take part
Four players had to play qualification games in order to enter the tournament.
The former squash player, Lars Blomstergren, proved strongest of the
qualifiers. Blomstergren played well in the tournament winning 3 of his 4
squash-games and finishing up as nr 10.
Two other new intersting players took part in
this event. The tennisplayer, Jonas Obert, and the badmintonplayer Lasse
Winnberg. They both played well. Obert came 14th and Winnberg 12th. Winnberg had
a tough final game against squashplayer Csaba Banhegyi. Banhegyi strongly ended
up as a winner by 11 points (15-9,15-4, 1-15, 15-7) Anders Persson had also
qualified for the tournament and kept up his spirit and strongly won two
badminton games. Persson got beaten by Roger Johansson who came 15th. Johansson
played well badminton and took 9 points of Staffan Ericsson in this sport.
The player who came 13th, Björn Hagelqvist, had
a tough draw playing Olle Benéus in the first round and Anders Brodin in the
second, but his table-tennis and tennis looked strong yet again. And he also
remarkably took 7 points in badminton against Benéus.
The most interesting game this day (?)
Anders Brodin, who won the Class 1 Event in
the World Championships 2003, had an unlucky draw in the first round, Kristian
Kartunen. The extremely good national badminton badmintoplayer Kartunen was not
too happy about the draw either. Sometimes you are lucky to get a good draw, and
sometimes you will have to face a tougher opponent...
Quite a few people looked
at game and surprisngly Kartunen proved to be the strongest of them winning by 2
points. (8-15, 8-15, 15-1, 15-13). Brodin, who was seeded as nr 4 in the
tournament, winning Top 8 in April, was now out. But he finished up well, he won
his last three games and finished up as nr 9. Brodin will come back, no doubts
about that.
Ander Brodin, nr 9, he will come back no doubts about that.
Another highly ranked player who got beaten.
Two other Gothenburg Racketlon stars who had a tough draw
were Ulf Bredberg and Stefan Engström. The third seeded player, Stefan
Engström, who has won 4 Top 8 tournaments (!) had to play Bredberg
in
the second round. Bredberg has yet not won a Top 8 tournament, but he has
finished up as nr 2 in two tournaments. Perhaps is is just a matter of time
before Bredberg goes all the way. Bredberg was too strong for Engström today
winning by 5 points (11-15, 10-15, 15-10, 15-6). Engström had two tough
games against Jukka Salminen and and Kartunen in the last two rounds and
lost them as well. He came 8th. Apparently he has not been practicising that
much lately. This one has to do in order to stay in the very top of Racketlon in
Gothenburg. However, Engström will definitely come back as well.

Stefan Engström, nr
8,
Salminen on the other side, nr 6, looks
will defintely also come
back
stronger for each day.
The Veteran Phenomena
The two veterans who came 1st and 2nd in Gothenburg Racketlon Open, Veterans
Class,
Ulf Bredberg and Olle Benéus did almost the same thing again. Impressive. Olle
strongly beat Kartunen in the quarterfinal taking 4 points of him in
badminton. (15-9, 15-7, 4-21, 13-9) In the semifinal Staffan Ericsson was too
strong for Benéus (3-15, 15-11, 8-15) and so was Bredberg in the match about third
prize.(10-15, 9-15, 15-6, 15-6) The match about the bronze-medallion was tough. Benéus won the first two disiciplines but
Bredberg was too strong again in the end of the game.

Olle Benéus, to the left, came fourth.
Bredberg took the bronze-meallion

Top 8 November 2004
The second Top-8 Tournament this season is now played.
One new interesting face participated in this month's Top
8 competition, the tennis player- Markus Edlund. He played well considering this
was his very first Racketlon-tournament. He ended up as nr 6, due to Anders
Brodin's injury. (Check all the results in detail here.)
The standard of this tournament was quite high, according to the players
themselves. It was a tough tournament considering that the skillfull player,
Olle Benéus, only ended up as Nr 5 and the guy who came second in the last top
8, Jukka Salminen came 7th.
Patrick Sjögren played strongly and fairly and did his
best Top 8 competition so far, he came fourth. Hans
Mullamaa is improving day by day after his knee injury and finished up as
nr3.
The extremely weird final
The final between Ulf Bredberg and Niclas Larsson was
indeed a very weird game. Larsson strongly won the table-tennis, which he never
done before against Bredberg, 21-13. The squash was indeed a "racketlon-game".
Bredberg who beat Larsson the last time in squash lost 21-1! Larsson played his
best squash game ever, racketlon is indeed a very unpredictable sport. Before
the badminton Larsson was up by 28 points, and badminton is usually his
strongest sport....The fighter Bredberg refused to give up and impressively won
the badminton game 21-9. Larsson needed 6 points in tennis. The result was 21-9
to Bredberg, Larsson won by 4 points overall. Larsson has won 3 out of the last
4 Top 8 Competitions he has taken part in and is now nr 1 on the Gothenburg
Racketlon Ranking List, well done!
(Check all the results from the weekend in detail here
and all TOP 8 results in detail here.)

Interstingly, quite a few good elite table-tennis and tennis players have entered the league already.
2004-11-17
The draw for the next Top 8 competition November the 28th
is now online. It looks like a very unpredictable tournament. Anders Brodin (1) faces the veteran world bronze medallist, Ulf Bredberg. A very unlucky draw
for these fellows but a very interesting game indeed...
Hans Mullamaa (4) faces Csaba Banhegyi or a
newcomber in Top 8, Niclas Jonsson, in the first round. Patrick Sjögren will have to play against Jukka
Salminen (3) and Olle Benéus faces Niclas Larsson (2).
See the whole draw and timeschedule here.

World Championships 2004
The World-Championships in Vienna was indeed fantastic.
The best racketlon tournament ever played. Gothenburg took three medals:
- Lilian Druve won the gold with the National Swedish Team.
- She also came second in the Ladie's Open.
- Ulf Bredberg came third in the Veterans.
Hans Mullamaa also played very well in the Elite Class, he just lost against
Callum Reid and then he beat Johan Nordstrand in the plate, the guy who reached
the quarterfinal in Gothenburg. Olle Benéus also played well, he reached the
quarterfinal in the Veterans where he had to play the worldchampion, Pär
Carleke. Tough draw for Benéus. Staffan Ericsson did well, he won his first
game in the Elite against Steven Thomson, who won the plate. In the second round
Ericsson faced a tough John O'Donnell and lost. Niclas Larsson lost his first
game in the Elite against Douglas Struthers. He faced Bulgaria's top badminton
and squash player in the first round in the plate and lost that as well. He did
ok in the plate though, he only lost by 8 points and took 11 points in
badminton. Brodin played ok in Men's Open, he won his first games and then lost
against a top table-tennis player.
-The tournament was indeed amazing and Gothenburg took 3
medals. Excellent!

The World Championships in Racketlon in Vienna,
Austria, is getting nearer and nearer, 11-14th of November. Gothenburg
Racketlon have quite a few competitors. Hans Mullamaa, Staffan Ericsson, Niclas
Larsson, Anders Brodin, Olle Benéus, Ulf Bredberg and Lilian Druve all take part in this
Racketlon feast. It will indeed be a very memorable tournament, 256 players from
all over the world.

Gothenburg Racketlon Open 2004
It was indeed tough for the Gothenburg Racketlon
players during Gothenburg Racketlon Open. However, one reached all the way, Ulf
Bredberg in the Veteran's Class. He beat Gothenburg player Olle Benéus in the
final. Lilian Druve also did well, she came second in the ladies event. Read
more about it here.
2004-10-25
455 visitors to this site so far. Gothenburg Racketlon
Open is shaping up nicely, 98 entries from 8 different countries. How will it go
for the Gothenburg Racketlon Club's Elite Players? Mullamaa has a tough draw,
Holger Stamm Germany. Engström can go far, but Johan Nordstrand in the first
round is a tough opponent. Brodin can win in the first round, but Mikael
Jonsson is difficult to beat. Larsson faces Roland Helle.....
Salminen, Bredberg, Andreasson, Sjögren
& Druve can all go far in Class 1, even win it? In the Women's Open, Lilian
Druve is keen on a revenge, she is playing Sarah McFayden in the second round,
and also in the final? A really interesting game considering McFayden won last
time. Olle Benéus looks like the favourite in the Veteran Class.
Anyway, Gothenburg Racketlon Open will be
good this year, no doubts about that.
2004-10-11
English Open 2004
Niclas Larsson was the only Gothenburg player in the
World Tour Tournament, English Open, this weekend. He did ok and and came second
in the Elite Plate. However, he was very near reaching the quarterfinal, he only
lost by eight points against Austrian, Marcel Weigl, who came second in the
whole tournament. Read more about it here.

Top 8 September 2004
239 visitors so far to this site. Gothenburg's Rackelon Community is indeed
expanding.
The first Top-8 Racketlon competition this autumn has been played today
Two new faces entered Gothenburg's local competition today. Gerald Haycock,
England, Gothenburg, Sweden and Andrei Wall, England, Australia. It was tough
for Haycock, but he seemed to enjoy it. Wall did well considering this was his
third tournament. Wall came 6th and Haycock 8th. See results here.
Roger Johansson also did well. He ended up 7th,
he had a tough opponent in the first round, the class 1 World Champion Anders
Brodin. He actually beat Brodin in badminton 21-19.Number 5 today was the strong
tennis player, Patrick Sjögren. Patrick unluckily faced today's winner in the
first round, Stefan Engström. However he beat Engström in badminton. Patrick
is definitly a coming man in racketlon. The one who came fourth today was Niclas
Larsson. He played ok considering he has been injured since March. His tennis
was however questionable.
Jukka Salminen surprised most people, coming second and
playing extremely well. The winner of the last Top 8, Anders Brodin, did ok,
finishing up third, playing well in squash. Today's winner, Stefan Engström,
looked mighty strong. His fourth Top 8 victory. It will be tough for anyone to
beat Engström at his present form. Well done and congratulations Engström!
